The coke ovens are on the bank of the Gila river,  east of phoenix, off the US 60 on the way to Superior, AZ.

Where we put it is approx mile marker 220 (this is a guess), Just pass the railroad crossing on the right side of the highway.  Its the first gate past the railroad crossing.  This entrance is usually referred to as the "first flag pole".  That's because there is a flagpole at this gate for the purposes of warning OHV's when the National Guard is out there blowing things up.

From this entrance it is XX miles to the coke ovens.

What we are calling the south route goes south thru box canyon then east along the Gila river.  This is the easiest route to the coke ovens we've heard about.  The trip thru Box Canyon is COOL!  At spots its, only about 6 or 7 feet wide with the sides that go straight up about 30' or 40'.  We would consider this route a Beginner route, with average beginning two wheelers, and even small childeren on quads being able to handle this trail.  There are a few tough spots, but nothing that would be too tough to walk the bike thru for smaller kids.

When we get the GPS route posted it will be here.

When we get a map of the route it will be here.

Here are some pictures of the south route.
